The Transition from University to Work.
Now that you’ve graduated, the time has come to move on from university and into the world of work. Now you should start thinking about your new life and get rid of anything you no longer need.
First of all, you need to sort out your wardrobe. Have a good look through your clothing collection and make sure you’ve got appropriate clothing for your new job. You might need to buy some new pieces, so get good quality items that will last. To avoid overspending, just buy the bare minimum until you get a better feel for the job, then go and buy more if you need to. Sell any good quality clothes you no longer need, or take them to the charity shop. And don’t forget about your shoes!
Then get rid of all your university related stuff you’re not going to need. Sell your textbooks to other students. Not only will this get you some vital cash, it’ll save you carrying them to your new pad, or stop them from gathering dust on your parents’ spare room shelves. Use a site like ours, www.theBookPond.com to sell them directly to other students and save on wasteful postage costs. Don’t hang on to anything for sentimental reasons as you could end up lugging it around from place to place for the rest of eternity.
Have a PC clear up. Save all your important files, like a copy of your dissertation, to a folder and wipe anything you’re never going to use again, like typed up lecture notes. De-fragment your hard-drive.
Have a make-over. Student style may not suit you forever, especially if you’ve now got a professional image to maintain. Some department stores do free consultations. Just don’t buy expensive items from a sales pitch - Use the advice and then go somewhere cheaper to buy the recommended products. And guys – at least have a hair-cut.
Update your CV. Now you know your degree result, you can add it to your CV, with your now confirmed degree dates. Always have a CV ready to send off whenever you spot the opportunity.
Good luck. The transition from University to work can be stressful but very satisfying. Use it as a chance to start afresh. The rest of your life is just beginning.
